Chevrolet Bolt EV: Affordable, Spacious, and Hot on the Market

The Chevrolet Bolt EV has had its ups and downs. Before the whole “battery fire” recall, it was a top seller in the US electric car market, and now it’s back on top with impressive sales numbers. GM redesigned the practical electric hatchback, added a crossover version to the lineup, and lowered the prices.
If you’re in the market for an affordable electric car with plenty of space, impressive range, and solid performance, the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV should be on your radar. Plus, these EVs are easier to find than many of their competitors, and you can snag a Chevy EV nationwide.
The 2022 Bolt EV starts at just $31,500, a huge drop from the nearly $37,000 starting price of the 2017 model. And for 2023, Chevy is selling the electric hatch for an unbelievable $26,500. That means the Bolt EV is over $10,000 cheaper than it was a few years ago, despite inflation, and it’s now a much better car.

But wait, there’s more! The 2023 Bolt EV will qualify for a US federal tax credit of at least $3,750, though with the US Treasury’s delay in releasing guidance for battery materials, the Bolt EV will probably get the full $7,500 credit through at least March.
So now we’re talking about a long-range, family-friendly EV for under $20,000. Chevy is also offering a $1,000 credit to get a Qmerit home EV charger installed, as well as $500 towards public fast charging at EVgo.
Depending on where you live, there may be local rebates, credits, or incentives that you can stack on top of the $7,500. And there are even more options for knocking off extra cash, including a $500 Costco discount, a $2,000 Uber discount, GM’s friends and family incentives of $1,250, and more.
So the real question is, “Why aren’t people rushing to buy the Bolt EV?” It just seems like a no-brainer. Maybe GM should take page out of Tesla’s playbook and start offering referral rewards.
But if the Bolt EV’s style isn’t your thing and you’d rather have something that looks more like a traditional subcompact SUV, the Bolt EUV is available at similar prices.

EV Market Takes a Hit 📈️ Time to Charge Up Your EV Strategy 🔌

The electric vehicle market saw a major dip on Thursday, with growth and tech stocks, including many electric vehicle (EV) companies, taking a hit as investors shift to a more defensive strategy heading into 2023.
There’s also growing concern over the balance of supply and demand in the EV sector and how it will impact profitability. According to Morgan Stanley, the coming fiscal year is likely to see repeated price cuts from Tesla and other EV players worldwide. “While some of these price cuts will be funded by falling input prices, not all of them will be.
Tesla’s lead over the competition may widen, but EV margins are likely to go down,” warned analyst Adam Jonas. And with higher interest rates and inflation costs also expected to cut margins for the auto industry as a whole, things aren’t looking great for the EV market.

On Thursday, some of the biggest EV-related losers in early trading included Electrameccanica, Lightning eMotors, REE Automotive, Arrival, Cenntro Electric Group, Beam Global, AEye, Faraday Future Intelligent, TuSimple, ChargePoint Holdings, Blink Charging, Canoo, XPeng, Workhorse Group, and Rivian Automotive, with many of these stocks hitting new 52-week lows and some showing year-to-date losses of over 80%.
Even the king of the EV market, Tesla, saw a 5.82% drop in its shares and traded at a 25-month low early in the day.
If profitability is key for investors in 2023, it’s worth keeping an eye on automakers with the highest EBITDA margins, like Ferrari, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Stellantis, which currently top the list.
