On November 6th 2019, a day that will live in infamy, Tesla CEO and SpaceX visionary Elon Musk announced that Tesla will be dropping curtains on it’s long awaited and highly anticipated pickup truck aptly named Cybertruck on November 21st which is about 24 hours from now. Staying true to their software roots, Tesla even added a pretty cool easter egg in the Cybertruck logo and it wasn’t long before someone figured it out. Check out the video below.
Just as Tesla revolutionized the sedan and SUV verticals with it’s Models S and X respectively, Tesla is once again going to revolutionize and disrupt the pickup vertical in the automobile space. Rumors are swirling that the design will be unlike any pickup truck in the market today and will hopefully start at less than $50,000 as Musk has previously claimed. Not one to pull his punches, Musk also threw shade at the F-150 (the best selling pickup truck in history) by claiming that the Tesla Truck will be “a better truck than an F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality, and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911.” He added that the Cybertruck will have a targeting capacity of 300,000-pounds. Ford better watch-out.
As always, Musk always has his cadre of skeptics and detractors which is understandable giving his propensity to over promise, However he also over delivers, maybe not initially but over time as I have come to know owning a Tesla for the past 5 years. So I for one choose to take a wait and see approach because you can’t sleep on Musk, he’s the real deal. To put things in perspective, the Ford F-150 can only tow a maximum of 13,200 pounds in right conditions. So coming our the gate with a 300,000 pounds towing capacity completely destroys the competition in theory. Add to that Musk’s claim that the Cybertruck will be a better sports car than the 911, any other pickup truck on the market today is not even in the same universe with the Cybertruck…in theory. I for one used to be a Musk skeptic until I bought my first Tesla and now I’m a true believer.
Not one to leave things to chance, Musk chose November 21st for the unveiling as it is the last press day for the LA Auto Show, guaranteeing him a virtual monopoly on the press coverage for that day. Now that’s a boss move. We spotted a concealed pickuptruck on a Tesla car transporter out in LA on it’s way to event we assume which gave us a general idea of how the Cybertruck will look. With the event only 24 hours away, it’s time to let speculation run rampant. So I decided to scour the internet for the Top 10 artist renderings and concept designs of the Tesla Cybertruck. You can thank me later.
The Dependable
This is the version you get if you simply took a Model S or model X and added a pickup bed at the back. Not too much imagination. However if Tesla’s past unveilings are anything to go by, Tesla will most likely start with it’s current chassis and body style. Then pickup-ify it by adding all the necessary features needed to officially classify it as a pickup. It’s the most efficient for production, marketing, user understanding. I think the Cybertruck will look more like this than the others which I’m are about to present below.
