The long awaited and long promised road legal version of the widely popular Tesla Cybertruck was spotted earlier today by a drone flying over the Tesla factory in Fremont California. This footage below is sure to set the internet on fire as over a million people have preordered the Tesla Cybertruck so far.
We had our Volty CSI team go through the video with a fine tooth comb and here are the differences we’ve noticed so far:
- There is only one singular windshield wiper and it is massive!
- Camera side mirrors have been removed and replaced with road worthy boring side wing mirrors.
- Not wheel covers, just raw wheels going stag.
- The bed looks much smaller than the original version.
- There are no door handles but rather a new addition on the b/c pillar that might potentially be used be to open the door.
- On the inside side of bed, there are for pins, similar to what you see in the Rivian which can be used for modular attachments.
- The charge port has been relocated but we can’t make out where. However it’s no longer on the side panel.
- A tow hitch is visible attached to the tailgate.
- The striking strip headlight in the front has been broken up and replaced with two smaller strips on either side, leaving leaving room for 3 small amber lights.
- Looking through the front windshield we can just about make out that the fake marble dashboard is gone and it now has a conventional black plastic looking dashboard.
- Marble dash look is now gone
- Although we can’t confirm it at the moment, it seems that the light bar could be gone
Rumor has it that the Cybertruck is no longer configurable on the Tesla site because they’re debating getting rid of the single motor version and having only 2, 3, and 4 motor variants.
Elon’s comments so far:
Manufacturers have to ship cars with side mirrors by law, but owners are allowed to modify their cars. The wiper is what troubles me most. No easy solution. Deployable wiper that stows in front trunk would be ideal, but complex.
Elon – Initial production will be 4 motor variant, with independent, ultra fast response torque control of each wheel.
Can it turn like a tank just like the Rivian?
Elon – Will have both front and rear wheel steer, so not just like a tank – it can drive diagonally like a crab.
So those of us with tri-motor reservations (or maybe all) will have option to upgrade? When do you expect to announce pricing?
Elon – Product roadmap update on next earnings call.
