Tesla Service Now Handles Collision Repair.
If you are a Tesla owner who has needed body work on your Tesla, then you’d be very excited excited to learn that Tesla now offers body work and collision service at it’s service centers. Yes you heard it right, Tesla now offers collision repair and that’s a big deal. Until now, Tesla owners had to rely on third-party (Tesla Certified) body shops to fix damages to their precious rides which could sometimes take months for repairs to be completed. I once had a parking sign fall on the hood of my Model S. It put my car out of commission for almost 3 weeks which pales in comparison to the over 6 months this Tesla owner had to endure after his Tesla needed some body work. Furthermore, it was additionally painful for me because not only did I have to fork over a few hundred dollars to some random body shop, I also felt like the innocence of my Tesla had been lost.
Here’s the official word from Tesla about it’s new collision service.
We are excited to announce that Tesla Service is now performing collision repair at our Service Centers and through Mobile Service. Having your vehicle repaired by Tesla ensures quality work, quick service and transparent pricing.
Now you can schedule a collision service right from the Service Menu of your Tesla app by selecting ‘Collision Repair’ and then choosing your desired appointment time. If Mobile Service is available, Tesla will coordinate sending a technician to you. That’s another tremendous time saving benefit of being a Tesla owner – Mobile Service. I love how they can come to you wherever you are and take care of almost any issue that you might have. I don’t remember my Audi or Mercedes Benz dealers ever doing that for my. With them, service calls was always a time jain when they held me captive until the felt like I had suffered enough.
What Tesla’s New Collision Service Is Not

It is important to note that major body repairs are as of yet excluded from the body work services offered by this new program. The services currently offered as as follows:
- Paint scuffs and scratches
- Paint scuffs and scratches
- Minor dents
- Bumper, fender, door, side mirrors and other bolt-on replacements
This means you will still have to go through the third-party body shop process if you require major accident repair or body work. However the vast majority of body work needs usually fall into the above listed service.
Another important aspect of this move by Tesla is to ensure the Trust factor remains because when you go to a third-party body shop, you cannot really know for sure whether the part installed on your vehicle is an actual authentic Tesla manufactured part. A quick search on Alibaba will lead you down a rabbit hole of fake Tesla parts and accessories. What’s to stop these third-party body shops from charging you for an original Tesla part and then putting one of the Chinese knock-offs. They can easily get away with it and you will never know until it’s too late. So with this move, Tesla can ensure that it maintains the trust of it’s customers when it comes to body work. I also suspect liability issues, might have played a factor in this move.
Until now, car companies relied on a patchwork of dealerships and third-party body shops to handle collision issues which always ends up being a money trap for their customers. However since Tesla did not have any “dealerships”, it had to rely on it’s own patchwork of “Certified” body shops. It’s a next logical step in keeping with the self-contained vertical integration ethos of Tesla and I for one am very thankful that Tesla is taking every aspect of it’s vehicles as serious as possible and other car manufacturers can learn yet another lesson from Tesla on how to do automotive products right. Knowing that I can go to my local Tesla service center for any and all my Tesla needs makes it highly unlikely that any other car company will ever see a dime from me or any other Tesla owner. Once You Go Tesla, You Never Go Back!!
