Who ever said size didn’t matter was lying because for Hyundai at least, size does matter but not in the way you might think. Hyundai just revealed what can be confidently called the world’s smallest EV. Meet the Hyundai mini EV – a one-of-a-kind electric car concept that features Hyundai’s Emotion Adaptive Vehicle Control (EAVC) technology. Like most legacy car manufacturers, Hyundai has been aggressively pursuing EV production as it looks to carve out it’s stake in the future of mobility.
This micro EV’s exterior style is based on the Hyundai 45 EV Concept seen in next it in the photos below. The 45 which Hyundai revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, marked a revolution and a game changer in automobile design for Hyundai and the mini EV definitely builds on that . Hyundai’s designers incorporated the signature ‘kinetic cube lamp’ design of 45 along with its angular yet smooth profile of the 45 to create this yet-to-be-named mini EV.
This ‘little engine that could’ packs two onboard DC motors that combined push the mini EV to a whopping top speed of 7 km/h. With speeds like that, only daredevils need apply. To build upon the mini EV’s racing heritage, Hyundai went as far as placing a single seat at the center of the mini EV to pay homage to F1 race cars. Hyundai even went as far as releasing the specs for this mini EV which are quite impressive and a first for cars in what can only be described as ‘kid cars’..

Interestingly, the body of this mini EV is made from wood instead of the usual cheap plastic you get with similar sized Power Wheels and Radio Flyer cars like the mini Tesla. The official EPA battery range has not yet been announced but I suspect it will be enough to get me around my culdesac and back. Hyundai hasn’t said whether or not its new Power Wheels-like EV will go into production or whether it plans to offer them as an incentive for customers making purchase referrals like Tesla does with it’s own Power Wheels mini Tesla. Whatever the case may be, I want one.
Further details will be revealed soon on how this one-of-a-kind EV will offer a unique mobility experience for young customers. You can also watch the video below to see the building process. This isn’t the first time an automaker has offered a miniature car for kids. McLaren, for example, has done so a few times at unreasonable prices. My hope is that Hyundai will stick to it’s affordable ethos and make this mini EV cost no more than $200-$400. Yes I know this mini EV is made for kids but I’m a kid a heart and what I wouldn’t give to feel the pure joy of riding around in my own electric car at age 4.
