Yes you heard right, you can now take the Tesla Cybertruck home – virtually at least. I took the Cybertruck home and it somehow ended up in my dining room. So can you.
A super smart Tesla fan named Pat Carver designed a truly awesome AR (Augmented Reality) mobile app called AR Cybertruck which can augment a 1:1 rendering of a Tesla Cybertruck into any space and you can download it here. Once you download, install the app and launch it, it will first ask for permission to access your camera. Once you give the app permission, the app will begin downloading your Cybertruck 3D model

Once your Cybertruck has been downloaded, the app will then instruct you to walk around and scan your environment. When the ground is detected, you can then tap on the screen to place your Cybertruck in that location. Also make sure there is enough light in the room for best results.

For some context, let’s rewind back to the night of November 21st, the night that Tesla Motors and it’s CEO Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Cybertruck to the world. Almost immediately, the Tesla all-electric pickup truck polarized everyone who saw it in the media or was fortunate enough to be invited to the unveiling event. You either loved it so much that you immediately placed your $100 deposit to reserve your spot in line along with over 200,000 people and counting, or you were so filled with hate and loathing for the extremely brash design devoid of any curves what-so-ever that you couldn’t help but drag Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the Tesla Cybertruck online with the rest of Twitter.
Fast forward to December 6th when an avid Tesla fan named Tesla Raj uploaded a video of him testing out the AR Cybertruck in his garage. Now Tesla Raj’s garage is the standard 20 x 20 garage you find is most US homes. When Raj tried to virtually park his Tesla Cybertruck in his garage, he noticed a huge problem – It Doesn’t Fit. The AR Cybertruck app superimposed a 1:1 rendering of the Cybertruck into the space in his garage using camera on his phone and when he came around to the back of his virtual Cybertruck, he quickly realized that is was about a foot too long.
Raj outlined his findings in his Youtube video above, exhausting every possibly option to squeeze in an extra inch in his garage to no avail. Raj who already owns a Model 3, pointed out that he has absolutely no issue parking his Tesla Model 3 and a second car owned by his wife in the garage. That’s because the average US garage is more than capable of housing sedans like the Tesla Model S, Model X or Model 3. I am actually able to fit 3 Teslas in my 20 x 20 garage – 2 Tesla Model S and a Model X. You have to see it to believe it and I’ve included the photographic evidence below. Unfortunately as the Tesla Cybertruck specs stand today, I won’t be able to add my Cybertruck to my garage party.

Undoubtedly, the Tesla Cybertruck is a very large curve-less vehicle, and with that comes it’s advantages and disadvantages. For one, it won’t fit in your average garage as is unless you have one of those rich people garages that can fit a boat. Fortunately, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that a smaller Cybertruck, perhaps comparable in size to the Ford Ranger is not entirely out of the question. But for now, what you see – virtually, is what you get. Even a smaller Cybertruck will still be challenging to fit in the average garage but at least it give us some room to work with…literally.
